This was an incredible experience. As a female solo traveler, I felt completely safe—even with the 6 AM private car pickup. Both guides were amazing—knowledgeable, attentive, and so passionate about their culture. What stood out most was the pride they had in their land and their work as tour guides. The hotel in Aguas Calientes was in a perfect location, with friendly staff and great food. I also appreciated the company checking in throughout the day to see how I was doing. If I had more time, I would have booked more tours with Yapa.
Samuel led us on an outstanding tour of Machu Picchu! Unlike other tour guides, we especially appreciated how he cited sources and is continually studying the latest research. Samuel also brought in his personal background as a Quechuan speaker. This cultural knowledge helped us understand current Andean belief systems and how they relate to ancient Incan practices. We learned a lot and would love to come back!
This tour went beyond my expectations. First off, communication with the team was great and they answered questions via email and WhatsApp really quickly. Our tour guide Marcelo was fantastic – he made the trip really interesting and made sure everyone was comfortable. Each day was really well planned and I enjoyed every part of it! Frequently Asked Questions Exploring Machu Picchu is not strenuous at all. To reach the Inca citadel, you have the option of either a 1.5-hour hike up or a 20-minute bus ride. Once at the site, it’s just like walking around any other city – it’s even at a lower altitude than the city of Cusco!
Luckily Machu Picchu is open 7 days a week, all-year round. Our recommendation is to visit between April through May and from September through October. June, July and August is when the weather is best, but also the busiest.
