Tips for choosing the right Machu Picchu tour

Start by choosing how you’d like to experience Machu Picchu — by hiking or by taking the train. We offer guided treks like the 2-day or 1-day Inca Trail.

If hiking’s not your thing, you can take the scenic train from Ollantaytambo and visit Machu Picchu on a 1-day or 2-day trip.

We’ll organize all the logistics: permits, transportation, entrance tickets, and your guide — all you have to do is choose your preferred date and preferences.

All of our tours include:

  • Entrance ticket to Machu Picchu
  • Bilingual local guide
  • Transport (bus and train when needed, or full trekking support)
  • Accommodation on multi-day trips
  • Meals depending on the tour (check specific inclusions)

If you’re taking the train, minimal walking is required — just be comfortable walking for an hour or two with stairs and uneven paths.

The treks are moderate level. They involve a bit of walking and some steep sections. We always brief you in advance and can help you choose the right tour for your level.

For last-minute trips, the 2-day Machu Picchu by train tour is your best bet. We depart daily from Cusco and always keep a few spaces for last-minute travelers.

Just message us and we’ll tell you what’s available this week.

Dry season (May–September) offers the clearest weather and best hiking conditions. It’s also the busiest, so booking ahead is recommended. Rainy season (October–April) is greener and less crowded — just pack a rain jacket. Machu Picchu is open all year, and we operate tours in every season.

Yes! Even on train tours, you can still enjoy short hikes — like the walk to the Inca Bridge or even Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (if you reserve permits in advance).

The 2-day Inca Trail is also a hybrid tour: train to KM104, hike the last part of the Inca Trail, then arrive at Machu Picchu via the Sun Gate.

Yes. Our 1-day Machu Picchu tour by train departs early from Ollantaytambo and returns the same evening. We handle all transport, including your transfer from Cusco to Ollantaytambo. It’s a full day, but very doable if you’re tight on time.

Packing will vary slightly depending on the tour or trek you choose, but there are a few essentials everyone should bring:

  • Passport (required for entry)
  • Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots
  • Small backpack (under 20L)
  • Rain jacket or poncho (weather can change quickly)
  • Sunblock, hat, and sunglasses
  • Water bottle and light snacks
  • Bug spray
  • Camera or phone (drones are not allowed)

Each tour or trek will include a detailed packing list with any extra items you might need.
